우크라이나를 위한 기도와 응원에 감사드립니다. 간략한 업데이트가 있어 전달해드립니다.

 

우리는 아리엘 디폴토 (쥬이시 에이전시 알리야 담당 디렉터) 산하의 글로벌 센터를 확장하여 구조를 요청하거나 알리야를 신청하는 사람들로부터 수천 통의 전화를 받고 있습니다.

- 수요일에는 우크라이나에 있는 2명으로부터 알리야 신청 전화를 받았는데, 목요일에는 400통의 알리야 신청 전화를 받았습니다.

- 현재 우크라이나에서는 84명, 이스라엘에서는 30명 이상의 쥬이시 에이전시 스텝이 우크라이나 유대인을 위한 '긴급 전화 라인'을 통해 모든 지원 요청을 받고 있습니다.

- 우크라이나 유대인 중 기존에 알리야 세미나에 참석한 적이 있거나, 이스라엘로 알리야를 희망한다고 의견을 밝힌 적이 있는 2만4000명에게 먼저 전화를 걸어 도움이 필요한지 적극적으로 묻고 있습니다.

 

예루살렘에 있는 이스라엘 외교부가 우크라이나에 인도적 지원을 제공하기 위한 작전을 준비하고 있습니다. 화요일에 100t의 구호 장비를 실은 비행기가 폴란드의 수도 바르샤바에 도착했습니다. 장비들은 트럭으로 옮겨져 키예프 주재 이스라엘 대사관 직원을 통해 폴란드 국경에서 우크라이나 시민들에게 전달될 예정입니다. 구호 장비에는 코트, 담요, 침낭, 텐트, 정수기, 물이 들어있습니다.

 

우크라이나의 상황은 우리가 예상했던 것보다 훨씬 심각합니다.

 

수십만 명의 우크라이나 시민들이 자동차와 도보로 국경을 넘으려 시도하고 있습니다.

 

현재 우크라이나는 16~60세의 남성들이 우크라이나를 떠나는 것을 허용하지 않고 있습니다. 이들이 군대에 징집하게 끔 하고 있는데, 이들 중 대부분은 군대 경험이 없고 가족을 돌보고 있는 가장입니다.

 

어제 쥬이시 에이전시 직원이 버스를 타고 16명의 우크라이나 유대인이 폴란드로 넘어갈 수 있도록 이송하는 중에 있었는데, 이 분들 중 한 분이 환갑을 이틀 앞두고 있었고 우크라이나는 그들이 국경을 넘어가도록 허락하지 않았습니다. 그는 이틀 간 우크라이나에 머문 후에야 비로소 바르샤바의 호텔에서 머물고 있던 가족과 다시 만날 수 있도록 허락을 받게 됩니다. 현재 이들을 이스라엘로 데려오는 과정을 진행하고 있습니다.

 

현재 우크라이나 남성들은 난처한 처지에 있습니다. 많은 사람들이 훈련 받은 병사들이 아니고, 가족을 돌보고 있는 가장이기 때문에 우크라이나에서의 전투를 피하고 싶어하는 상황입니다.

 

모든 사람들은 우크라이나로 자원을 공수하고, 사람들을 바깥으로 피신 시킬 수 있는 인도주의적 통로가 있을 것이라는 가정 아래 일하고 있지만 이 일은 지금까지 일어나지 않았습니다.

 

리비우 지역은 우크라이나 대부분의 지역보다 안전합니다.

 

쥬이시 에이전시는 리비우와 폴란드 국경 사이에 난민 대피소를 열었습니다. 현재 100명의 유대인이 이곳에 있고 더 많은 사람들이 오고 있습니다.

 

쥬이시 에이전시는 폴란드, 몰도바, 루마니아, 헝가리 국경에 알리야를 진행하기 위한 6개의 시설을 열었습니다. 그러나 현재까지 많은 사람들이 건너가지 못하고 있습니다.

 

사람들은 목요일에 차에 올랐지만 그들은 여전히 운전하며 국경을 넘으려고 기다리고 있습니다. 이러한 상황들로 인해 긴급 식량 및 물 공급이 요구되고 있습니다.

 

쥬이시 에이전시는 정부와 연결된 특별한 지위에 있기 때문에 직원들이 외교 여권을 소지하고 있습니다. 이들은 우크라이나로 건너가 일을 하고 폴란드로 돌아오는 것이 당일 안에 가능하며, 외교 여권으로 보호를 받을 수 있습니다.

우리는 러시아어 구사가 가능한 8명의 쥬이시 에이전시 스텝을 파견할 준비를 하고 있습니다. 이들은 우크라이나에서 알리야를 위해 일하는 84명의 현지 스텝들과 합류할 것입니다.

 

우리는 우크라이나의 이번 위기를 오랜 노력으로 준비하고 있습니다.

Update on Ukraine -- Feb 28, 2022

 

Thank you for your prayers and support for Ukraine. Here is a brief update.

 

 

We expanded our Global Center under Arielle Di Porto, to handle the thousands of phone calls we receive from people needing rescue or who want to make Aliyah. 

For example, on Wednesday, we received calls from 2 people in Ukraine wanting to make Aliyah. On Thursday, we received 400 calls.

84 people in Ukraine and 30 more in Israel are taking calls from Jews in Ukraine calling the hotline in need of assistance

We are proactively calling the 24,000 Jews from our list who either came to an Aliyah seminar or who expressed in making Aliyah to Israel and asking what help they need.

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem is preparing for an operation to transfer humanitarian aid to Ukraine. On Tuesday, a plane carrying 100 tons of equipment will be launched to Warsaw, the capital of Poland. From there the equipment will pass in trucks and the staff of the Israeli embassy in Kyiv will hand over the equipment to the Ukrainians at the border crossing with Poland. Assistance includes coats, blankets, sleeping bags, tents, water purification, and water.

 

The situation in Ukraine is much worse than we expected

 

Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians are trying to find their way to cross the borders by car and on foot

 

Ukraine is not allowing men aged 16-60 to leave Ukraine and drafting them into the army

Most have no military experience and families they are caring for

 

For example, among the 16 Jews, The Jewish Agency staff were transporting on a bus to Poland yesterday, one man was 2 days short of his 60th birthday. Ukraine would not let them pass. It was agreed he would stay behind in Ukraine two days and then be allowed to join his family staying at a hotel in Warsaw and we are in the process of bringing on Aliyah to Israel.

 

Men are in a difficult position. Many want to escape the fighting in Ukraine they are not trained soldiers but also have a family they are taking care of. 

 

Everyone was working under the assumption that there would be a humanitarian corridor to move resources into Ukraine and move people out. This has not happened up to this point.

The area of Lviv is safer than most places in Ukraine

 

The Jewish Agency has opened a refugee shelter between the border of Lviv and Poland

100 Jews are there now and more are coming

 

The Jewish Agency has opened six facilities for aliyah processing in Poland, Moldova, Romania, and Hungary

Not many have been able to cross over

 

People got in the car Thursday and they are still driving and waiting to cross the border. This makes for a food and water emergency.

 

Because JAFI has special status with the government, members of The Jewish Agency staff have diplomatic passports and can cross in the day to Ukraine to work and pass back to Poland and be protected with a diplomatic passport

We are preparing to send 8 other Russian-speaking staff members from Jewish Agency to help

These will join our 84 local Aliyah workers who live in Ukraine

 

We are preparing for this crisis in Ukraine to be a long effort
